£5 million to improve energy-efficiency of GCH homes

GCH will improve the energy efficiency of 299 more homes, adding to the 170 homes improved between 2022 and 2024.

The programme, worth £5 million, has been boosted by government grants worth £2.2 million. It will enable GCH to deliver warmer, healthier and energy efficient homes. This will help to tackle fuel poverty, improve customers’ health and wellbeing, and help fight climate change.

Investment is being made in external wall cladding and ventilation upgrades to help cut carbon emissions. The upgrades will see homes being warmer in winter, whilst the added insulation will also keep them cooler in the summer.

Stroud District Council was the lead partner in a consortium of Gloucestershire social housing providers which was awarded £15.7 million to provide warmer, more energy efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

The local consortium, which includes Stroud District Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, Two Rivers Housing and Gloucester City Homes received the third largest award out of 144 projects from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) under the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 scheme.

Michael Hill, Executive Director of Customer Experience at GCH said: “Our customers will greatly benefit from this funding which will deliver warmer, more fuel-efficient homes. Healthy homes are vital for our residents. It allows us to build upon our commitment to providing housing that supports our customers to live better lives.”
